וVav, the sixth letter of the Alphabet. It interchanges wit ב, as אִיסְטְבָא a. אִיסְטְוָוא, a. fr.; v. letter ב; also with ע as וָתִיק a. b. h. עָתֵק (v. וֶסֶה); v. also letter י. In inflections ו interchanges with, and is the equivalent of י. [To give ו the value of a consonant, וו is frequently used for ו, as וֶסֶת and וֶוסֶת.—For lexicographical purposes ignore the second ו in words beginning with וו.—As a vowel sign u or o (וּ, וֹ).
